NEWS: BEALERT at IN4SAFETY Final Event
The final conference of the IN4SAFETY project took place on 17 October in Nova Gorica. Numerous partners presented project results, experiences from the large cross-border exercise GOIn4Safety, and outcomes of various training activities. The event also provided an opportunity to showcase other cross-border civil protection initiatives, including the BEALERT project, which focuses on early warning systems and cross-border risk preparedness.
With more than 15 projects represented — including several beyond the Italy–Slovenia cooperation area — the conference offered an excellent platform to introduce and promote BEALERT, alongside other initiatives. Discussions centered on key shared topics such as cross-border risk management, the development of early warning systems for extreme weather events, interoperability of monitoring and emergency response systems, and wildfire prevention across borders.
The focus on wildfire management continued the following day during a large public exhibition held on Transalpina Square, where Slovenian and Italian rescue and protection services showcased their vehicles and equipment. Visitors had the chance to explore firefighting, civil protection, and forestry service vehicles, watch live demonstrations — including controlled explosions, rescue operations, and fire-extinguishing drills — and participate in interactive safety-themed games for both adults and children.
Experts also held thematic discussions on wildfire prevention, the use of satellite imagery and GIS systems, and lessons learned from recent cross-border exercises.
The event once again highlighted how cooperation, knowledge sharing, and active participation are essential for building safer, more resilient communities — goals that lie at the very heart of the BEALERT project.
